Major manufacturer of sub-sea power connectors used in harsh enviroments improve adhesion through plasma treatment in critical manufacturing process
Improve adhesion through plasma treatment
Offshore Power Connectors or sub-sea power connectors are required to perform with unquestionable reliability on some of the harshest environments imaginable.
Both our atmospheric plasma torch and bench-top low-pressure plasma units have been chosen by a major manufacturer of power connectors for offshore applications. The units were chosen for both site and field applications after initial trials demonstrated significant adhesion improvement in critical manufacturing steps.
Improving adhesion through plasma treatment
Plasma surface activation is effective at altering the surface of a polymer by attaching polar or functional groups to it. Many polymers, in particular polyolefins such as polyethylene and polypropylene, are chemically inert and cannot bond easily to other materials, displaying poor adhesion with inks, paint and glues. The reason for this is the absence of polar and reactive functional groups in their structure.
